Dean Street
Dean Street is a family home designed specifically with entertaining in mind.
From the street, the contemporary house immediately makes an impact. A striking geometric timber-screened balcony off the master suite gives the house a unique presence, as does a flying roof form. This roof also provides shade to the expansive entertaining platform while taking advantage of river glimpses and expansive views of the hills beyond. A private balcony also forms part of a secure and lockable facade. This was also important, as the client has a busy lifestyle and wanted a modern home they can ‘lock and leave’.
The home connects with the outdoors at every opportunity. A central courtyard and garden house a Bradford Pear tree, which becomes a centrepiece of the house and softens its sharp form.
This courtyard also allows northern light to flood into the heart of the home and creates one open space where both the kitchen and lounge area flow outside. Meanwhile, the double-storey glass link connecting the two areas absorbs the sun and spreads its warmth throughout the house.
The design also features a car stacker, as the site is fairly narrow for Perth.
